Team Peregrine conducted a Top Secret Black operation to protect the United States from a Russian strategic nuclear attack during the Cold War, 1945-1991. The US and USSR could execute strategic attacks with a 'push of a button'. Missiles launched at targets thousands of miles distant delivered nuclear warheads on enemy targets 30 minutes later. The US and the USSR both faced a nuclear apocalypse as each superpower had the capability to annihilate the other as a country and do so in minutes. This horrifying specter of destruction was codified by the term Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD). OPERATION PEREGRINE is an exciting look into the secret wars. The accuracy of the historic details and meshing the flow of a powerful story feels authentic in every respect. I was drawn in to actually feel the tensions and read how spying was done. The unfolding story made me want to continuously read on to see how the characters dealt with the dangerous situations they faced. NOT ON MY WATCH is not another fictional thriller by a famous author. This is the real thing, the writer, Gary Bowser doesn't just know history, he lived it and he made it. A genuinely tough guy, one of the warrior class, Been There, Done That type. This is the time of the Cold War and MAD. The men and women described in this book fought for and made the USA the unparalleled power in areas not thought of before. Would that there were more books like this. A fast and gripping must read.
